Record labels traditionally deal with the creation, manufacturing,
distribution, and licensing of sound recordings, but bands generally
use other companies for publishing, touring, and selling merch at those
shows. For most bands, touring is the only reliable source of income,
because their cut of record sales goes towards paying back their
recording advance and other costs. But as record sales dwindle, labels
are increasingly looking to get in on touring, merchandise, and

offers artists a new type of record deal that involves all of those
