What is Rock and Roll today?

Madonna, Afrika Bambaataa, Beastie Boys among 9 acts nominated for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (wiki entry), we all heard the news, right? Its quite funny that some people get upset, that Madonna or the Beasties are not rock, it is even funnier that the fans or the local supporters of the artists get euphoric about the nomination. But what is Rock and Roll today? Who will be nominated for the Hall of Fame in the next years if all the oldshcool rocker legends will be inside? Maybe they should rename that museum or Rock and Roll is not only about the yelling guitars anymore? We decided to have our own poll about this issue, you can find it in the inner sidebar, just under the comments. Let your voice heard and show the music industry what do you think. We will see how our taste and the ‘professionals’ opinion will look like when the results will be available in 2008.

You missed one important band that has been an influence on a lot of others who are still not in the Rock Hall of Fame: Kiss. And that is a shame.

But you are both right the Kiss and the Rush have to be in the Hall of Fame, for sure!
the beastie boys are NOT rock and roll. therefore they don’t belong in the ROCK AND ROLL hall of fame. maybe some other hall of fame, but NOT the rock and roll one. if you voted for them to be in the rock and roll hall of fame, you’re automatically a stupid asshole.

They have been scrapping the bottom of the Rock and Roll world for years now. Donna Summer, Madonna ! I hope Frank Zappa never gets in that Joke of a Hall of Fame.
