Suck Shaft – Touchy Touchy [mp3 ]
Look what the Cat dragged in… This little special feature might be the perfect starter for your Friday night. At least the music that goes with it.
Suck Shaft is a new exciting dj/producer duo from Sweden who are destined for greatness. Close friends since 2003, Ludvig Parment & Johan Busk have been producing music, mostly hip-hop, ever since then. Tired of Stockholm, they moved to Manchester last year, when Ludvig was offered a bartender job over there.
"I just grabbed my computer, my Moog, my turntables and rushed there as soon as I got the offer" says Ludvig. "And I tagged along" continues Johan.
It turned out the bar was waaaay out in the suburbs, far away from the glory that is Madchester. Further discouragement was delivered by aid of the smokefree legislation in the UK as of July last year. It practcally killed all the bar’s business…
To get by, Ludvig and Johan started to spin records – without any contacts whatsoever. Slumming it for a while, they realized they wouldn’t play major venues without a proper agent or rep. And by the time they were contacted by one, they were both broke and exhausted and decided to move back to Stockholm.
Probably the best thing that could happen for lovers of quality dance music. Because in the chaos of it all, they formed Suck Shaft, spectacular modern hood-rat-electro with a distinguished whiff of classic glittery 80s funk soul.
The first EP, "Lookin Good Broke", is finished and about to be released on Rent & Benefit Music. It includes remixes from Basutbudet and Xadamz. Also keep your eyes open for a couple of Suck Shaft remixes for other artists in the next few months.
Here’s a little sneak preview of their EP, "Touchy, touchy". It’s based on the glitzy minor 80s hit, "Touchin’ you" by Archie Bell, formerly part of Archie Bell & the Drells, a Philadelphia soul vocal group who scored their biggest hit with the classic "Tighten Up" back in ’68.
