We gave you PR info’s and videos already , but now here is a pretty detailed video demo from the Skratchworx ‘s NAMM 2009 collection. Eric McGregor from Akai demos the new Akai APC40 Ableton controller.
Your pants will be wet by the end of the vid.

It has everything necessary to run Ableton externally except for an X-Y controller for that effects circle. It could use an X-Y contoller and a few more faders. Why only eight tracks? Why not 16? This is the best controller I he seen offered so far (next to our weird-ass system, of course).
yes I agree about the best controller part
what is REALLY bothering me the lack of EQ knobs for each track
come one AKAI how can you target DJ’s without EQ knobs???
dj’s take it or leave it, this controller is way more versatile than targeted just for one user-group. If dj’s find it so hard to use the 8-band Eq that live offers they might just look at Zero8 in all their dj-conservatism…sometimes dj’s are musicmakers.
I’m an AKAI user DJ and I really love APC40
:D
but I still think the few extra EQ knobs (3 for each track) would make it perfect
fo sho! there are always improvements left to be made, I think they left out the classic track-knob-set for layout reasons, it would have made it look like any controller around, we’ll just have to wait and see what mr Ableton meant by his famous qoute by now…”controllers”.
No eq nobs? Akai have shot themselves in the foot with what would otherwise have been an amazing product. Have they not heard of market research? EVERY dj uses eqs.
I put an EQ or better the ext line input utility from Ableton and map the on/of button of the device to the rec arm or activator buttons.
Then put the bass EQ on -24db, and set the rest if the device as you like…
Then by switching the device off in one channel and switching it on at the same time on in the other… you get the instant Bass/mix every dj needs…… with the light in these buttons indicating that the EQ is on or off
Sorry.. forgot something…

I know what you mean and I’m an AKAI user as well
and I love it
but
I prefer to have EQ buttons like Vestax VMC 600 has them
