On Friday January 23rd, GBH presents a night at Webster Hall with a distinctly French flavor…
The Valerie Collective is not just a music blog
- it is a group of like-minded DJs and musicians from West France that
fuse authentic 80s synths with modern indie/electronica. Their
productions are startling in their consistency, mood and feel; they
offer a sense of a time that never existed, but we all somehow
understand… a future that once seemed possible. Their ‘80s sci-fi
inspired artwork (by The Zonders) sums it up nicely.
There are several “groups” under the collective including College , Anoraak , Russ Chimes and Lovelock – all of whom will be performing. This will be their first time in the US – and the buzz is out.
Brooklyn’s 33Hz
(who have been rocking NY for a while now with their glossy blend of
disco, r&b, electro and hip-hop) will be hosting their record
release party and playing a full live show in the basement Studio room
on the same night. These guys have a strong following in France – which
is probably why the influential French blog ‘Fluokids’ selected them as one of the first artists to be released on their new record label – Fool House Records . The E.P. is out this month (Jan 20) – and it features two new tracks: ‘I Feel Alive’ and ‘Sentinel of Love’ – with remixes by The Shoes, Boombass of Cassius, Eli Escobar, and a host of other top producers. All this activity comes hot on the heels of 33Hz’s excellent remixes for Duran Duran and The Teenagers – which you can hear on their myspace page.
Plus there will be a lot more going on… the indie-hipster Trash! party will be happening downstairs in the Studio and the excellent Alaska in Winter will be playing an early live set. Dimitry!!! (High Voltage) will be spinning party tunes and classics in the Marlin Room, And you can expect to see JDH and Dave P (of Fixed) opening for the Valerie Collective in the Grand Ballroom. And there will be drinks specials.
