Iceland Music Export presents Made in Iceland CD release and YAIC Music Conference coinciding with 10th anniversary of Iceland Airwaves Festival, October 15th-18th in Reykjavik, featuring the most eclectic up-and-coming talent of the Iceland music spectrum!
Iceland delivers a plethora of the coolest musical landmarks for the biggest, bangin’ end to the year 2008!
"It’s hard to believe anything with a beat could grow in a landscape as otherworldly and physically inhospitable as that of Iceland. Mother Nature, in all her harshest majesty, is the headline act here. She is not easily upstaged. Nevertheless, in a small rehearsal space on a snowy, windblown side street in central Reykjavik, a local band called the Sugarcubes is busy proving that rock & roll is not only alive and well here but mutating into shapes as odd and wondrous as the geologist’s paradise outside."
David Fricke, Rolling Stone, July 1988
Monday Kick.
A happy, positive craziness which helps to start an another week.
Where dinosaurs and technology intersect. "Cromagnons aren’t fully evolved, but the problem of dinos has finally been solved."
What is the real benefit of being really famous musician? Featuring in the Sport Illustrated’s Musicians and Models series. Really. Just check out these pix and try to control yourself. Jealousy won’t make you famous. Make kick ass music and you will get the swimsuit models too. Ah and we might post about your tunes too. Maybe.
Cruel Black Dove: Love Song [mp3 RCRD LBL]
Brooklyn based outfit Cruel Black Dove has been making its own brand of dark electronic rock since 2007. Before coming together, Cruel Black Dove was seen mostly as an "experiment" when it started as a recording project in Los Angeles.
Cruel Black Dove blends varied inspiration — a penchant for crisp production and heavy sounds, a love for dramatic vocals and intense performances, an art school obsession with the swagger and pomp of glam rock, and a passion for pounding acoustic drums mixed with electronic percussion. The result is a luxurious sound rich with dark energy and drive. Full Powers is Cruel Black Dove’s self-released debut.

The South by Southwest is one of the premiere festivals in the world for discovering new bands, and its only few days away now. The whole music world and every music fan is getting SXSW crazy nowadays. What is the better way to feel the SXSW vibe if you can’t take part in the event, than listening music from 764 new bands that will be performing at the festival. Yes, you can do this easily, head over to Greg Hewill’s site and get his 3497 MB zip file (BitTorrent client required) containing all those band and songs. Greg is a hero! If you’d rather cherrypick MP3s than download the whole shebang, SXSW has the same MP3s posted on its site, but the Torrent link is a much easier way to go. Thanks, Greg!

Wired’s Listening Post recently caught up with two companies — Sellaband and SlicethePie
– that are betting music fans want to bet on music by investing in
artists they believe in. By raising money from fans and investors,
these companies offer bands a chance to spend $30K and upwards on an
album without making a deal with a label. And for fans, these sites
offer a way to get involved in music industry financing for as little
as $10. For the details, check out the latest Listening Post column.
