Walking on Eggshells is a 24-minute documentary about appropriation, creative influence, re-use and intellectual property in the remix age. It is a conversation among various musicians, visual artists, writers and lawyers, all sharing their views on why and how we use and create culture, and how intellectual property law, originally designed to provide people with incentives to create, sometimes hinders creative production far more than it enhances it.

More and more articles coming out about mashup culture in mainstream media. CNN just released this few days ago. They say we are moving into the mainstream. Aha. I thought we are there already ;)

Think it, find it, match it, mash it!  That’s the process being adopted by an increasing number of so-called ‘creative’ artists, who are rapidly expanding ‘mash-up’ culture and making the controversial phenomenon massively popular.

‘Mash-ups’ refer simply to the end result of bringing together two or more different creations or applications that were not originally intended to work together, and the concept is a firm part of the Web 2.0 world.

More mash-ups are being created than ever before, with movies, music, computer programs and applications, news content, and even the mighty Google being mashed.

The result of all this has been some very humorous and extremely useful creations. [read more @ CNN ]

DJ Le Clown won the Total Recut’s Video Remix Challenge 2008 !!!! Massive congratulations to Le Clown, here is what the judges said about his mix.

JD Lasica: I LOVED this mashup. It perfectly captures
the spirit of anarchy, irony and pop culture that infuses remix culture
in its purest form. The technique was skillful, the typography cool,
the soundtrack properly thematic and, while it went on a minute too
long, I can easily forgive that.

Matt Mason:
Pretty standard. Didn’t say anything to me about NYC, or xmas, or
anything much. Also: Benzino?!? WTF?!? Should have included a good NYC
MC.

Luminosity: Overall Impact – Excellent. Creativity – If DJ Le Clown actually did the audio remix as well, I was blown away. Communication – It didn’t define remix culture as much as it threw me into a vid that celebrated it. A little long, but very, very well-done.

Mark Hosler:
Kinda fun and nicely done for what it is – an appropriated music video.
But I wish the actual found lyrics added up to something that made
sense. Santa Claus in NYC? What? I wish this had been about something,
instead of seeming totally random.
