Birds play guitar

Trained as a musician and composer, French artist Céleste Boursier-Mougenot creates works by drawing on the rhythms of daily life to produce sound in unexpected ways. His installation for The Curve will take the form of a walk-though aviary for a flock of zebra finches, furnished with electric guitars and other instruments and objects. As the birds go about their routine activities, perching on or feeding from the various pieces of equipment, they create a captivating, live soundscape.

Record Time exhibition in Sydney

record

24 renowned typographers, designers and artists come together as a tribute to the vinyl record. The inspiration behind the exhibition concept is to focus on the record as a medium and create a renewed functionality. Turning the records into laser etched time pieces (clocks), added purpose to objects, which had otherwise become obsolete. Record Time opens Friday, May 15th and will run thru May 28th, 2009 at Palmer Projects in Sydney Australia. [via Juxtapoz ]

Punk. No One is Innocent
a must see exhibition in Wien

There is a great exhibition about the punk culture/style in Wien’s Kunsthalle. If you are in the are it’s really a must see. Here is what the organizers think about the event: Besides Hip Hop, Punk was the last global pop cultural movement that aimed to be more than just an acoustic
furnishing of teenager bedrooms: a complete upheaval in fashion, gestures of style, artistic forms of expression,
and music from the improve the world poses rampant in the sixties’ Summer of Love to the nihilism and no
future slogans of the Winter of Hate ten years after; from the soft and shapeless psychedelic color games to the
sharp contrasts and angular designs of the neon and plastic era. Punk was about an attitude of protest fuelled
by the spirit of the Situationist International, an extreme left wing group of European artists and intellectuals who
lived for “carrying gasoline to where there was fire”
(Guy Debord).

Make sure to visit the Kunsthalle’s site for more info and/or read the press release. Here are few picture to make you move.

DFA and PopRally Team Up for Dance Party

Dfa_dance_party_at_moma

A DFA Records entourage will storm the MoMA this Satruday, March 1, for a dance party to be held in conjunction with the museum’s exhibition, Color Chart: Reinventing Color, 1950 to Today. The event is part of the museum’s ongoing PopRally series. The exhibition, which will run March 2 – May 12, examines what
happens when, according to its website, "contemporary artists assign
color decisions to chance." If your knowledge of art is remedial, think Andy Warhol, Frank Stella, Gerhard Richter, and Damien
Hirst, and you’ll get the idea. The dance party will feature Juan Maclean, T&T (Tim Goldsworthy
and Tim Sweeney), Holy Ghost!, Justin Miller, and Jacques Renault on
the decks. Attendees will be able to preview the exhibition, and should
wear bright and bold colors. As always, free booze will be available at
the open bar. The MoMA is located at 11 W 53 Street in New York. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. Unfortunately, the event is sold out, best use those connections.
