Jay-Z vs Oasis
Last time when we posted about Cookin’ Soul was about the release of their Jay-Z VS Elvis mixtape. The mix was great the hype was huge. Today I was checking my usual daily reads and I found somthing interesting. A catchy headline on Wired’s Listening Post, Jay-Z And Oasis United by Unauthorized Mash-Up. Hmm. The post starts like this: Are you a famous musician who desperately wants your music mashed up and re-presented to the public? It’s simple: just kick off a tabloid-baiting feud against another rapper or rockstar, and remixers will crawl out of the woodwork to put both of you into the same song as means of forcible reconciliation.
Witness OJayZis: Jay-Z vs. Oasis, a collection of mash-ups by three Spaniards who comprise the Cookin’ Soul collective. Hmmmmmm again. Is it really this simple? I mean, making mashups of current tabloid happenings is enuff to get 90 000 downloads in few days?
I don’t think so. You have to be damm good and dedicated, like Cookin’ Soul. While most of the mashup producers are trapped into their own labyrinth chasing the perfect multilayered megasampled dream and hating everything which is simple (A+b mixes or even rock VS rap mashups) these guys simply managed to have millions of hits and huge publicity, from the Wired till the MTV News and so on. Respect! Here are last two mixtapes of the always on spot Spaniards, well done boys well done.
