The winner of AudioPorn Central’s and MB Disco’s
Giorgio Moroder Remix Contest!

People! The wait is over. We have a winner in our Giorgio Moroder Remix Contest.

As you might remember, we were looking for an entry that will accompany the APC team of producers in the upcoming digital release of Giorgio Moroder’s classic “E=MC2″. We got a wide number of great entries – and the jury’s had a couple of tough weeks. But we’ve reached a verdict…

It’s a great pleasure for us to present our winner – and the producer who will join the APC team on the digital release from MB Disco, due this spring:

- “Dirty McKenzie Evolution Remix” by Dory Kahalé, Minneapolis, USA!!!

The jury’s motivation:

“Lovely take flirting with both classic Moroder tunes and TV Themes. Subtle melodies paired with intense drama – and a killer bassline. Great production. And a great representative for MB Disco and what we’re all about”.

We promised we’d have two runners-up. But that was impossible. So we ended up with THREE instead :) All of which will get a nice little vinyl pack from MB Disco.

They are – in no particular order:

- Fail Remix, by Fail from France!

- Anyma Remix, by Ghislain Caya, Chambly, Canada!

- Higinio Remix, by Higinio Alvarez, Gijon, Spain!

Well done, you lot. And congrats to all of you! MB Disco will be in touch with you shortly to sort out the details. Also, a big hearty thanks to all the producers who participated. Keep your eyes open for more in the near future.

And now – the tunes:

Martin Brodin – Nothing New Just Good Music [mp3 SoundCloud]

Our good friend Martin Brodin, the MB Disco label boss, delivers a little season greeting in the guise of a perfect mix for groovy mistletoe exercises. “This is a mix I put together just for the fun of it. Nothing really new or groundbreaking. Just good music, at least in my ears. It’s a mix of smooth boogie, edits, balearic grooves, some dubby elements and true classic disco anthems. 2 hours and 37 minutes!! Happy xmas!”

Happy xmas right back at you, Martin!

Set list and d/l over here.

Giorgio Moroder – E=MC2 (Rodion Gran Manigheo Remix)

Here’s another fabulous remix from the new Moroder Italian Connection release. This time it’s a more recent name giving us his take on the classic. Dubbed “the new genius of italian dancemusic”, Rodion – or Edoardo Cianfanelli – is an up-and-coming Italo House and crazy country disco producer from Rome with several releases on cool labels such as Gomma, Eskimo, and Nang under his belt.

According to Gomma, Rodion’s music fits “somewhere between German synthesizer funk and Italian horror movies, and heavily influenced by the Japanese science fiction animation soundtracks of the 70’s and the cosmic music culture.”. We say: he’s darn good. And a perfectly nice bloke too. We had a word with him.

- Ciao Ed! When did you first get in touch with a Moroder production?
I was born in 1977, same year as “I feel love”, so Moroder was in there from the very beginning. First time I thought “Wow! Whose is this lovely music? Ah, Moroder!” It was in 1984, after watching “The Neverending Story” with my grandma. Shit, we both loved that “na na na” theme so much!

- What has Moroder meant to you and your music?
Quite a lot of things, both when I was a kid and later on when I decided to move to electronic music production. As a kid I have always had a certain crush on electronic keyboards and synthesizers, and also on robots, space and technology: my childhood heroes were futuristic robots fighting in outer space to save and protect mankind from alien’s menace. Moroder’s music was the perfect incarnation of the spirit of those times. There was a lot of music television in Italy during the 80ies: the vocoded Kraftwerks they scared me to death with robot faces and evil voices, like the evil aliens of my japanese tons. Moroder and YMO tunes, they were definitely hero-sounding tunes to my young ears. Since then, I’ve heavy traces of Moroder influences in 90 % of my music production.

- What’s your favorite Moroder song?
Very difficult question to answer, but I’d probably choose “I feel love”. It’s such a perfect classic, one of the very first and most effective blends of sensuality with cybernetics. It started quite a revolution back in 1977 and countless people (including myself) keep on producing I-feel-love-inspired music since then.

- Which other Moroder song would you give your right arm to remix?
I’d say “I feel love”. But I’m already left with a single arm after having remixed E=MC2, so that’s enough arm-cutting action for me ;)
