Richie Plastikman Hawtin offered a no questions asked EUR2,500 reward this week after thieves stole his laptop and ipads while he was staying in Paris.

“To all my French fans, friends and supporters. I need your help!” the Canadian minimal techno star pleaded in a posting on his label site M-nus.com.

“On Friday night someone broke into my hotel room at Hotel Costes in Paris and stole my iPod and 2 x Plastikman Live iPads (serial #GB01723UZ38 and #GB0129CAZ3A) and my Plastikman Live show Apple Macbook Pro 17″ laptop (serial #C02CK0GXDC7C),” he wrote.

“I am asking everyone to keep their ears and eyes open for any information about these very important and personal items. I’m offering a 2500 EUR reward for any information that leads to the return of the equipment. Please email me at x@m-nus.com. If found/returned I will NOT prosecute any one involved as I would just like to have my equipment returned,” he added.

Describing themselves as being ‘in one of the trendiest areas’ in Paris . . . very much appreciated by the trendy crowd’ in one press release, the 4 star Hotel Costes attracted a less euphoric review on travel portal Europeforvisitors.com who labelled it a ‘super fashionable designer hotel in eclectic French Empire brothel style”.

“This is a hotel for the thick-skinned fashion follower or the thin-skinned celebrity who doesn’t mind a guest pecking order and a staff with attitude,” the site suggested. “Very busy at all times of year, the balcony rooms are best, and the courtyard dining is attractive.”

I’m in the middle, I’m not a blinded fan and not a hater either
I believe that these touchscreen mobile devices will play in a major role soon
in the way we make or perform music
I don’t care if it’s an Apple product or something else
there are other devices, other platforms these days
the Android league is getting pretty strong
with devices  the Google Nexus One, the HTC Desire or the Samsung Galaxy S
you can have a choice,and from my point of view
if something will give me the possibilities what I need, I will use it

Richie Hawtin brings Twitter into the DJ booth and invites the world to see what’s happening in real time. He recently began a European tour, armed with a Twitter-enabled TRAKTOR setup that will display set tracklists in real-time during a performance. The application was custom-developed by the Minus crew. Song data is fed through Native Instruments’ TRAKTOR software and then appears online, via Hawtin’s Twitter page , so fans can follow the tracklisting of any given performance.

M_nus label owner and minimal techno pioneer Richie Hawtin has eschewed the “trade secret” mentality (and ridiculous toupe-combover hairstyle, thank god!) and shared brief videos on his myspace blog explaining his live setup.

Traktor lies at the base of his arrangement, and in particular he makes use of Traktor’s Four Decks. Much in the way Ableton Live enables live syncing of basic elements, Hawtin uses elements of unfinished tracks, such as a partial demo track from label-mate Marc Houle, as building blocks in a live set.

And in a move that some people consider controversial in the DJing world, he admits to using the Sync function, as it allows him to focus on other things such as four-deck manipulation and playing with effects, a view to which digital musicians are more sympathetic. [read more @ CDM]
