Santogold – Shove It (Switch Remix) [mp3 RCRD LBL]
By opting for some more crystalline hi-hats and a soupier kick sound, Switch has kept Santogold’s track Shove It — one of the dubbier cuts from her album—at a turtle-crawl pace, drawing the island vibes out even more but never dulling her (or Naeem’s, of Spank Rock-fame) performance.
The countdown is on. Santogold, Tom Waits, Kanye West, MIA and David Byrne are among the artists who will appear on NASA’s forthcoming album, The Spirit of Apollo. We refer not, of course, to the USA’s National Aeronautics and Space Administration. That NASA, the space-exploring one, is too busy fiddling with Mars probes to lay down tracks with Spank Rock and CSS’s Lovefoxxx. No, we mean the other NASA, a DJ duo also known as North America/South America, who have been putting the record together for years, criss-crossing the globe to work with their favourite musicians. The group is composed of Squeak E Clean – aka DJ Sam Spiegel, brother of director Spike Jonze – and DJ Zegon, aka producer and professional skateboarder Ze Gonzales. The Spirit of Apollo will be released by Anti on February 17. It’s a truly star-studded album, the culmination of five years’ work by Spiegel and Gonzales. "It’s not about cash or anything," Spiegel told NME. "It seems that almost everyone I’ve asked to be on the record has been really down for music just for inspiration … It was like, ‘Oh cool, I like this music, I wanna be involved.‘" The list of cameos is almost unprecedented. DJ AM, who was injured in a plane crash last month, appears. So does the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard and a slew of other Wu-Tang Clan members. Not to mention Chuck D, Seu Jorge, John Frusciante, George Clinton, Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Karen O and Nick Zinner, and many more.

First opening In 1967, in its early years, Montreux
was solely jazz and solely hardcore soul improv sessions hosted in a
casino.Throughout the 70s- Montreux was an organic music utopia; you
would walk out of the casino at dawn as the sun began to rise over the
pearly waters ahead- and as your head buzzed from hours of intense live
sessions. And back when albums took a year to record, rock stars like
David Bowie retreated here to immerse themselves in music all year
long. Charlie Chaplin spent time here- Freddie Mercury lived and died
there (there’s a Freddie Mercury memorial day in fact.) It’s safe to
say a music icon has walked each stone of that blessed waterfront. These days, Montreux is largely a quiet and quaint town- except when
the Jazz festival comes to town. From the 4th to the 19th of July,
Montreux buzzes with people, melodies, beer, wine, crepes and all
things sweet and savory. This year, they also reeled in some of the
finest specimens of indie rock. [read more @ RCRD LBL]

Last time we were not really amazed by Pharell’s collaboration with Madonna. This issue is totally different. My Drive Thru might be a Converse commercial, but rock big time. These paper figure animations are really wicked and the music is just ACE. Plus one karma point for Pharrel for this.
There is no better way to start your Friday then watch the latest Santogold video. Wicked! She was the Artist of the Week @ MTV, so you can find a whole bunch of stuff overthere! Worth to have a look.
