bands and labels should use torrents to share their free content

BitTorrent Inc. has made the remote access ‘web’ feature of its Falcon client iPhone compatible. uTorrent users can now remotely control their downloads from wherever they are with their iPhone. Torrents can be added, paused and removed using an interface with a look and feel identical to that of the uTorrent application. The Falcon release is one of the main pillars for uTorrent’s future. Among other things, it allows users to access their downloads from anywhere through a secure web interface. A few weeks ago the uTorrent ‘web’ feature opened up to the public and today the team announced that support for the iPhone has been added.

Pioneer recently announced a prototype set-top box that supports BitTorrent streaming. The device already caught the attention of the BBC, as it opens up the possibility for TV-networks to offer their content via the Internet without having to spend millions of dollars on bandwidth bills. The new device from Pioneer R&D is still in the prototype phase, but it has the potential to change the future of TV. It is developed within the P2P-Next project, which is sponsored by the European Union, and includes partners such as the BBC and other TV-broadcasters. [read more @ TorrentFreak ]

Here is an interesting story about a band and evil torrent uploading pirates. Smart investigation by TorrentFreak. When BuckCherry found out that their latest single had leaked on BitTorrent, they didn’t try to cover this up, or take the file down. No, instead, they issued a press release, where they stated: “Honestly, we hate it when this s*** happens, because we want our FANS to have any new songs first.”

Out of curiosity, we decided to follow this up, to see if this was indeed the case. Hmmm read it!!

The South by Southwest is one of the premiere festivals in the world for discovering new bands, and its only few days away now. The whole music world and every music fan is getting SXSW crazy nowadays. What is the better way to feel the SXSW vibe if you can’t take part in the event, than listening music from 764 new bands that will be performing at the festival. Yes, you can do this easily, head over to Greg Hewill’s site and get his 3497 MB zip file (BitTorrent client required) containing all those band and songs. Greg is a hero! Da-Tah – Scissor Sisters mashup album [zip file]

The Da-Tah project is a unique collaboration between the bastard pop netlabel WHA!? and idontfeellikedancin.com,
the  #1 Scissor Sisters Fan Site & online community. Each mashup of
the main album and the #14 bonus track is new and exclusively produced
for this project.

We believe that the Da-Tah is a small
milestone in the music history, but definitely a turning point for the
mashup scene. As far as we know, this is the first time when a fan
community and bootleggers worked together in peace and friendship to
create something new and creative to tribute their loved band. Usually
the die hard fans of bands hate mashups because they think they loved
music been ruined. The contributors of the Da-Tah will prove it how
wrong they are. This tracks are taking the original Scissor Sisters
songs into new directions, but the album in general kept the original
crazy, twisted vibe and spirit of the Sisters.
