Depeche Mode has renewed its long-term deal with Mute/EMI and is planning to release its 12th studio album in early spring 2009. It’s unclear who will handle the project in the United States; past Depeche Mode albums were licensed by Mute to Warner Bros. At a press event today (Oct. 6) in Berlin, the band also unveiled its 2009 Tour of the Universe, which will play 28 stadium dates worldwide beginning May 10 in Tel Aviv, Israel. As-yet-unannounced dates in North and South America will follow; Live Nation is promoting.

The last Depeche Mode tour, in support of 2006′s "Playing the Angel," was supposed to conclude in Tel Aviv but the show was canceled due to concerns over safety.

"Playing the Angel" has sold 423,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The set was produced by Ben Hillier, who is also producing the as-yet-untitled new album. Frontman David Gahan said during the press conference that at least two songs he’d penned would appear on the set.

Headline DJ, Paul Oakenfold, recently commissioned Litestructures, in association with partners Pioneer and Anolis, to design and build a special touring DJ console. He was so pleased with the results that he agreed to a pre-tour test-drive of the final rig on the Litestructures stand at this year’s PLASA show, before heading off to Wembley, where he began a heavy touring schedule with support action for the Madonna concert on 11th. September. The PLASA show’s origins were rooted in DJ and discotheque equipment, and it was therefore particularly fitting that Paul should perform as part of Litestructures’ 25th anniversary celebrations, highlighted at the show.

During their last US tour, Los Angeles residents were able to catch the Kooks busking in the streets for Sidewalk Sets. Now, New York fans of UK wunderkinds The Kooks will have the opportunity to win a seat on a very special rock and roll tour of New York, and be witness to some outdoor performances of their own. One day ahead of the band’s show at Rumsey Playfield in Central Park on September 10th, the Kooks are treating a handful of lucky contest winners to a guided tour of the city’s most famous (or infamous) rock and roll sights, and will be taking their guitars along for the ride. It could possibly be the first acoustic show on the top of a double-decker bus New York City has ever seen. The tour will finish up at the Apple Store in Soho, where the band will be playing a free in-store show.

Danish duo Wolfkin are set to play in the US in support of their debut album “Brand New Pants” out March 11th on Crunchy Frog Records. Brand New Pants was written and recorded in both Copenhagen and Mexico City by Lars Vognstrup of Junior Senior and Kristian Godtfredsen of Sleeping Agents.

Set for release on March 11th, this debut certainly has all the right elements, enough to seduce any music fan of the pop persuasion, into the melodic and sometimes murky world of Wolfkin.

Be sure to catch the band when they venture Stateside for a select amount of dates (more TBA) as well as their Official Showcase on March 12th where we’ll also be celebrating their record release in the USA. Come join us, if you happen to be in sunny SXSW!

This Spring 2008, America will witness the legacy that is Sasha and John Digweed as they launch their Sasha and John Digweed Spring Club Tour 2008 at the Winter Music Conference on Thursday, March 27th at Mansion. This is the first time that Sasha and John Digweed are touring North America extensively in six years taking them thru 21 cities landing at Coachella on Saturday April 26th where the duo will be headlining the Dance tent which may look something like the one in the video right after the jump ;)
