The police hold a press conference about the event, where the Hungarian Minister of the Interior announced the followings:
- the club had no licence for making big events like this
- there was no murder, the victims been drowed and crushed to death in the crowd panic at the narrow stairway
- only 10 (!!) security guards were at the club
- there is no  exact crowd number, 3000+ for sure, but many people been pushed inside without tickets at the gate
- 5 people been arrested, the organizers and the club owners

Let’s hope every party organizer and club owner will learn from this.

As we reported earlier today, according to the official announcement three girls had been crushed to death due to crowd panic in Budapest leading underground club last night. We posted about a the venue and the event earlier, now we try to resume known facts.

First of all, we can’t say it enough, this is a really sad thing and we really hope the party organizers will learn from this. However nothing can bring back the lives of the three victims.

Everything is unclear at the moment, noone seems to know what happened and why, what was the real reason of the crowd panic. Many witnesses who been at the party are talking about murder, they say one or two of the girls was knifed, others say the club was 3 times over capacity and the security started to empty the building but the crowd has been stuck in the stairway. Many witnesses are criticizing the organizers, for letting so many people in, and in a place like West-Balkán it’s definitely a bad idea to place the coat room at the third floor at the end of the narrow stairway. The police investigation is still going on, but it’s already turned out that the club had no licence for organizing big events like this, and the organizers and the security didn’t care about the basic safety rules either. This is a very sad and brutal lesson for everybody, the story of greed, money chasing and irresponsibility.

The tragedy happened at the Noise Night Life party. NNL was a very successful party series with massive DJs lineups. Last nite’s party promised to be an another great event, with the cream of the hungarian DJs in a great club. There was a NNL party in the West-Balkán already, with about 4500 guests, without any problems like this.

However, there are many criticism is flying around, about the NNL parties, because of events when they let much more people into the clubs than their capacity. Last night was an another night like this.

West-Balkán is/was the underground superclub of Budapest. The club is in the  center of Budapest, in a formal department store. Three floors plus a balcony with great view. The West-Balkán club had many location, they opened this new place in March 2010. Even if the club’s capacity can handle 2000-3000 people, the stairway between the floors was not built for such a massive traffic, and this was probably the direct reason of the tragedy, besides of the decision of the organizers, who let much more people in than the place can handle.
